Reducing mechanical vibrations in machinery

Vibrazioni meccaniche nelle macchine: possiamo ridurle?

How to reduce mechanical vibrations

For those who deal with industrial machinery every day, the inconveniences that mechanical vibrations bring to the machines are well known - the noise of the gearmotors, the wear of bearings and chains during their operation, the operation of an upgrade and so on.

But the problems that a mechanical designer is forced to face and often spends much time trying to solve, we also encounter in our daily life. Just think of the annoying vibrations of the dashboard of our car or the noise of the photographic lens or a microscope, for those who are passionate about astronomy.

What may seem like a "minor issue" can actually turn out to be very serious threats to the mechanical components that present such vibrations and which require complex design manoeuvres with high costs to be solved.

Reduce mechanical vibrations in machinery

The production of mechanical components is increasingly accompanied by the use of lubricating solutions that not only isolate the two surfaces in contact in mutual movement, improving their performance and extending their life, but also reduce mechanical vibrations in the machines.

In this case, the solution is not to create a simple lubricant but a compound capable of actively controlling dynamic and static friction, reducing wear in hydrodynamic and mixed lubrication conditions, whilst at the same time same recovering the play on the mechanical coupling.

These solutions are called Dynamic Active Compounds and are able to simultaneously solve problems of:

  • Usury
  • Active motion control
  • Noisiness

Mechanical vibrations in machines and DACs

The technologies developed for the DAC solutions have been applied to the sectors of traditional lubrication of mechanical elements with great success.

Dynamic Active Compounds are lubricating compounds of different consistency and state of aggregation, formulated with synthetic bases of high purity and thermal stability, characterised by the combination of lubricating properties and control of the relative movement between two surfaces in reciprocal motion.

Following this technology, we at Macon Research have developed different product families to reduce mechanical vibrations in machines, classified according to:

  • State of aggregation
  • Thin film behaviour
  • Applicability in open or closed systems

  1. Rheofluid, fluid with a high viscosity index, suitable for closed systems and a wide range of operating temperatures

  2. Tixogel, fluid with high adhesiveness and sealing power, suitable for closed systems where a high resistant torque is required

  3. Damping Fluid, thixotropic compound with a high coefficient of friction, also suitable for open systems - in this regard, you could also read the post from our blog that explains: How to control friction with a damping lubricating grease

  4. Plastilab, high consistency plastic compound with strong sealing power

  5. Smartfluid, magnetosensitive fluid for systems with feedback control

  6. Hyper V-Fluid, compound with a high viscosity index, adhesive, also suitable for systems without sealing elements and subjected to a wide range of operating temperatures
