Eliminate the risks! Check the compatibility of the seals with the lubricating fluids used in your mechanical device
Loss of mechanical properties of rubbers poses a serious threat to electro-mechanical devices. Contact between a lubricating fluid and a sealing ring, whether accidental or necessary for correct operation, can trigger a profound change in mechanical properties.
Through a specific compatibility test it is possible to exclude from the start these risks, modeling a lubricant solution suitable for your components.
How incompatibility phenomena manifest themselves:
- Swelling
- Embrittlement
- Softening
- Corrosion
- Color change
Which rubbers are most sensitive to lubricants?
It is not easy to establish this a priori, in some cases even the most common NBR (nitrile rubber) can undergo a chemical attack by organic mineral oils. This can happen for example in the case of low temperature NBR compounds. In this case it is advisable to carry out a compatibility test and to evaluate after conditioning in the test oil the variations of:
- Volume
- Weight
- Elongation at break
- Hardness
