The extraction of hydrocarbon oil and gas energy sources in the subsurface requires the construction of extravagant installations and the placement into operation of complex machinery and dedicated equipment able to operate in extremely climatically unfavourable conditions.
Their proper function is often guaranteed only by standard design and production and by the use of lubricants and protective solutions able to preserve the correct functioning over time.
Macon Research has always considered needs in the oil & gas sector, and has been present from the earliest stages of the design of components making up the extraction system, particularly with regard to lubrication and inhibition of corrosion of metal surfaces of the trapping hydrocarbons components: ducts, pipes, pumps, wellheads, substations refining, shut-off valves.
The fluid interception valves are at the heart of a complex system of distribution, and their functionality over time often requires the use of synthetic lubricant solutions from assembly, tested until the on-site operational service is efficient.
Focus and Pre-Requisites:
Macon Research, over the years, has developed a specific program for hydrocarbon and process fluid valves: for lubrication, for protection against oxidation and corrosion during all stages of assembly, and for inspection and maintenance of the functionality in exercise.
The storage of finished products, assembly, testing and shipping of the finished product; all these stages of production may pose a threat to metal surfaces, corrosion; the formation of surface oxides is a particularly fast and aggressive occurrence, which takes place in a free atmosphere due the strong oxidizing energetic charges. The presence of moisture and water can make the phenomenon even more rapid and aggressive. The non-prevention of this undesirable phenomenon, which is very frequent in carbon steel construction, can result in prolonged and expensive remedial measures, especially for parts already subjected to mechanical processing finishing awaiting final assembly as flange supports.
The spread of the chain of oxidation-reduction chemical reactions can be interrupted through the use of high protective power fluids belonging to the Maconfluid series, now available in a wide range: from standard oily film end solutions, Maconfluid 500R, Maconfluid 510R medium thickness oil film and semi-dry oily film, Maconfluid RS-P to ensure a greater persistence on the critical points and to prevent any accidental removal on contact.
The damage to the stem seal O-ring seat elements in a ball valve may cause undesired operation already in the early stages of the commissioning of the valve. The lubrication of the seals with high pulp content of ceramic or polymer solid lubricants can further and appreciably lower the friction coefficient with consequent reduction of damage to the seals and increase in the sealant effect over time. The solutions contained in the basic Maconsynth 430 program, Fluorosil 605, Fluorosil 607 and Maconsynth PAG are an effective starting point for the assembly of sealing elements in polymeric materials of different natures such as: SIL-NBR-EPDM-VITON-PTFE.
The use of suitable lubricant solutions can promote the reduction of torque opening both during the starting phase (starting torque) and during the movement of the valve (running torque), owing to the modulation of the static and dynamic friction coefficients. The reduction of the friction coefficients inevitably leads to energy savings and powers in play, which allow to optimally dimension the actuator engines for operating the valves.
Macon Research has developed a family of compounds called HYDROFILM combining action lubricants persistent over time with reduced coefficients of friction; nano-sized ceramic solid lubricants are added to the basic formula for superior performance and continuous reduced friction.
The lubrication of plug valves requires a balanced combination of both the lowering of the friction coefficient between the plug and the body so as to promote optimum handling of the valve, together with a good sealing effect so as to prevent any leakage of fluids jointly with the critical interception points of the fluid. Plug Valve Sealant Series # lubricating greases and sealants are developed specifically to create to withstand different types of intercepted fluids: crude oil, H2S, natural gas, polar fluids, water, acids and bases.
